Collaboration

Two heads are better than one.

Since none of us have two of our own, we’re usually better off with some honest and useful feedback and collaboration.  Minor Details is highly collaborative.  We work with new or long-time home owners, clients, builders, architects, general contractors and skilled trade workers, just to name a few.  We love working with people – and that’s not an over-used cliché in our case.  We play well with others and work tirelessly to build strong mutually beneficial partnerships.

Architects, Builders & General Contractors
We’re happy to work with your already established design/build team or help introduce you to qualified professionals who may be right for your project.  While Minor Details is not a General Contractor we are available to represent your best interests during the design, specification and building process.

Painters, Electricians & Plumbers
We’ve worked with countless trade contractors over the years and are happy to put you in touch with the best of the best.  We can create and communicate custom interior and exterior paint palettes.  We can help plot out the best locations for your beautiful new wall sconces or recommend placement for outlets in your kitchen.  We’ll plan your new master bath or kitchen layout and communicate all the necessary details to your plumber.  Don’t have one?  We’ll help you find and interview the best skilled trades people.

Tile Setters
Skilled tile setters are few and far between in our experience.  We can introduce you to a few.  Minor Details can design your tile layouts, help you source and specify your materials down to the grout color and will expertly collaborate with your chosen tile setter to effectively install even the most meticulous designs.

Cabinet Makers & Installers
Whether you’ve decided IKEA is the way to go or you’re ready to splurge on custom, solid walnut, we can help.  We know great cabinet makers and installers who are ready to help transform your kitchen, bath, closets, office or workplace.  We’re happy to offer conceptual scale space planning in collaboration with numerous custom cabinet shops.  We’ll help you review competitive bids and decide on materials and cabinet hardware.

Faux Finishers & Wall Covering Specialists
Minor Details can recommend and coordinate the services of custom painters, faux finish artist and custom wall covering installers.  Our skilled and experienced artists can transform rooms quickly and cost-effectively.  Visit the Minor Details Studio in Tacoma for sample and to learn about the latest trends in wall coverings and surface treatments.

Landscape Architects & Designers
Minor Details can help you amp up the curb appeal of your home with plant selections, planters, door mats and exterior lighting.  Sometimes, however, we need guidance from professionals who specialize in landscape design, architecture, water features and comprehensive fence and lighting systems.  We’ll help you create a plan, source just the right landscape provider, communicate the plan and oversee the execution.

Custom Furniture & Upholstery
Our Dakota Scott Collection is a made-to-order line of tables, chairs, cabinets, desks, upholstered and occasional seating manufactured by local craftsman.  Our long-time collaboration with Turner Custom Furniture and Upholstery, Madera Furniture Company and the sustainable RePly Furniture gives us the freedom to “Dream it, Design it, Make it!”  Contact us to learn more or discuss your special project.

Fine Art
We love art in all forms!  Minor Details routinely commissions art for projects and site-specific needs.  We love to work with local and emerging artists and are happy to introduce you to talented people who can create that one-of–a-kind piece you will cherish for years to come.  We offer custom original works, limited edition prints and print-on-demand fine art prints on paper, canvas and other substrates.  Shop Scott Neste’s original works at the Dakota Scott Collection or his fine art prints at MinorDetailsArt.com.

Realtors
We love working with realtors as well as with home owners getting ready to buy or sell a home.  Our 90 minute “Design Review Package” is offered to realtors or those preparing to sell their home.  The $200 package includes a comprehensive on-site home tour with the realtor and/or home owner.  We discuss the good, the bad, the ugly and the possible budget-conscious fixes so that you can best prepare your home for an aggressive sale.  We’ll help you create a punch list of tasks, minor upgrades and recommendations that will guide your process. (Additional travel fees may apply.)

Minor Details has long standing collaborative partnerships with a number of media service providers.  As communication and branding designers we bring together the “right” people for your job.  Scott Neste, provides graphic and web design, creative consulting, art direction and project management for brand development and communication programs.

client testimonial

I'm a new client of Scott Neste and his business Minor Details having recently moved to Tacoma's North End from the city of San Francisco. I've always been a renter and have never put too much thought into what my personal style is on the home front because my apartment or flat in SF always represented a "way station" for me. My move to Tacoma represented an opportunity to buy a home and begin to create a "grown up" house. Now, I'm never going to give up my framed vintage concert posters from The Fillmore but after meeting Scott I now have a collaborator that can help me bring to life a really cool rock and roll inspired media room that spotlights my 1966 Doors poster or a beautiful family room and living room where I can entertain friends or read a good book in front of a toasty fire. This is the first time I've worked with an interior designer and Scott makes the process really fun and easy. For example, I'm a very visual person and after getting overwhelmed looking at books of beautiful rugs Scott designed for me on paper a representation of the rooms we were designing that featured different color palettes and ideas for furniture and light fixtures. After looking at my options, I knew with absolute certainty the direction I wanted to go in with the color and the feel of the space. I think one of the biggest benefits of being a client of Scott's is he listens and just really, really good at what he does because he's passionate about design. He's helping me define my style and guiding me towards pieces that will not only work in my current rental home but in my home I hope to buy in the future. My space is so important to me and with Scott on my team I will be able to confidently create a home that reflects who I am-- one that captures my passion for beauty, music and has an element of surprise. In summary, Scott is a top-notch designer, a great person and has a client for life!
